GB's Corolla AE100 SE Limited from Kenya

I got this car in a fairly good condition though there was a ton of work that needed to be done on it. It was very drivable though.
Mine is a 1992 Toyota Corolla AE100 SE-L (Limited) with a 1500cc 5A-FE motor and a 5spd C50 Manual Transmission gearbox.
It came stock with climate control, power mirrors, central locking, rear mounted air purifier among other extras...

Initially  intended to keep the car as stock as possible but due to peer influence from fellow petrolheads I have now began transforming it into the ultimate sports AE100 fully upgraded with performance and luxury addons.

The following are the mods i have done as well as what I intend to do.

So HERE IS THE CURRENT LOOK...but I will tell you the whole story as to how I got HERE!

So the first thing I did when I got it was to fix the minor paint damages so I decided to do a complete paint job....I did not document the full respray process but I am happy to share with you some pictures of the look thereafter....





After driving it around for some months, I then decided to do an engine rebuild!



The rebuild was a success and by then I was satisfied with the outcome.





Next I took to restoring the dashboard...




I bought the air vent grilles on eBay and replaced the old broken ones...




These fitted rather nicely....

Yet again, I decided to change the color to a dark bluish grey shade...

One of the fuel injectors had failed so I had to replace...




Here I decided to change the backbox. It looked great to me but the sound was deafening. I hate very loud backboxes so I had it removed the following day..

Now the interior seat photos... Just decided to take pictures for no reason..

I have been longing to get rid of the 13" steel rims and finally I got an irresistible offer on these 15" multispoke rims.. These are made in England so I am sure they are of high quality.


I wrapped some 195/50R15 tyres on them and I immediately fell in love with them...


Then went to the fitting center..

Catalytic converter removed and new pipe installed...

A better exhaust tail end fitted and looks nicer than stock. Backbox is still stock though so I was satisfied with the noise level

Next I spent time to replace the worn out clutch. I replaced it with the OEM AISIN clutch kit.

I was looking for the cheapest way to lower the ride height and on eBay.com I found a listing for Megan Racing lowering springs. Yes, lowering springs are the cheapest way to lower the ride height safely although not the best as I found out later.. Coilovers are the best-100%

so yeah, the car looked awesome but there are draw backs as I will now tell you.
The lowering springs were very soft so body roll was worse than the previous springs. Carrying just two people meant the car dropped even further and thats it..I couldn't even leave the parking garage.
Honestly I hated going over speed bumps as I would scrape my undercarriage each time..so you learn to curse each time you see a speed bump.
To cut the long story short, I removed the lowering springs and installed back the raised ones...One day I will get BC racing coilovers....one day!

I always wanted to own a timing light and I was so excited when I got this one Accuspark..

Looks clean!! I need me some huge ramps like that lol

Now that I intend to upgrade the engine in the near future, I decided to start by upgrading the rear brakes. I removed the stock bottle tops in the name of drum brakes and replaced them with some AE101 BZ touring 266mm discs and calipers.. It was an easy swap as these were a direct bolt on with no modifications needed.
