How to Jack up an AE101 and place Axle Stands

Can someone with more experience add to this thread.

I am wondering if it is safe to jack up my car with a piece of wood under a floor jack which is on wheels? The floor jack will not lift high enough to get the tires off the ground. I have a solid 2x9x25" piece of lumber to use, but im afraid the jack will somehow roll out.

I am also wondering if it is safe to place jack stands under the frame rails? Or what I think are the frame rails? (Where the red circle is?)


I used my oem jack to lift from the jack point and the seam/sill folded on me after the tire lifted off the ground. So depressing.

So I have no choice now other than to lift it from the front and rear center jack points. Especially since the rear side jack points are rusted ever worse.

I have found that it is OK to use a piece of wood under the jack. I just tried it and had the tires almost off the ground but backed off after hearing more cracking sounds?



I lifted the car from that jack point (with out the rag). Is this strong enough to take the entire front weight of the car? I dont like how it makes cracking noises as I lift it, but it didn't appear to be damaged after lowering the jack

I think I have the same jack as you haha, I got mine at Canadian Tire, and I only really ever used the front and rear jack points as I was scared of my side jack points being too weak from rust. It worked for me so you should have no problem haha.

Personally I never trust any Jack if I need to work with one safety always first ...jack first then I use building blocks or even better ramps or jack stands. If it drops and races away ...

That looks like a good point to jack it up, the creaking sounds should be normal. Where do they sound like there coming from?

Hey, I got mine at Canatian Tire as well lol, must be same jack lol.

I think the cracking sounds are just the suspension lifting but I cant tell if the front jack support is bending. Im just worried that it will just fold and bust right through into my engine bay, but I think I am being a bit paranoid.

Well your jack rail things look much better than mine! But it's using those types of jacks that ruin them. Mine were both completely destroyed on both cars, but I still jack it up there anyway lol.

i use the stock scissor jack to lift the car up, then put a block / brick under it, then rejack to get it high enough, then leave it big blocks lol

LOL me too I can't jack like in the first pictures. It's soo rusted that when you jack the metal crisp and disaggregated literaly. Soo i jack in another spot.

I found that using the front and rear center jack points worked the best for me. The front one is shown in the picture above and this is the rear one I used.


I actually ended up using 2 blocks of wood UNDER the jack to lift the front to get it high enough without raising the floor jack to its max lift range.

Another key feature I found was to make sure you lift on level ground. I spent a lot of time positioning the jack on top of the wood and making sure the wood was level. I finally got the block of wood level and raised the car with the jack but when the tires were almost off the ground, I could clearly see that the jack was on 3 wheels because the car was not level (I think). I ended up moving the car over a bit and it was sitting more level. Heres what I mean:



I had the board level and the wheel would spin like that and was not firmly on the ground/board because the car was leaning to one side. The concrete is all chewed up and not perfectly flat and one of my tires was sitting lower.

And I never even really used my axle stands, just slid them under the sills just incase:


Im starting to feel more comfortable with lifting a vehicle.

I also found some vandalism on my car, looks like a bunch of kids spray painted under neath my car with some kind of rust coloured paint....
