| When I mean old, I mean the date on the tires could be old, even if they are never used, the rubber goes bad over time!
Definitely check the dates on the other tires, I imagine all of them will have the same issue!

| Be careful about overinflating pass the max psi marked on the tire too. It's possible that could've been a factor as well. | |

| Are the max inflate psi/bar noted on the tire as well? I always just guess... mostly I use 2.6bar afaik | |

| Just went back to have a bit of a read up on what happened. :O
Dude, you have the devil's luck. I'm really glad you're alright man. Sucks about the tyres, though.
Speaking of which, I've had good experiences with nitrogen fill in mine. Tend to run them at about 36psi with nitrogen fill. Probs a little hard for a sedan though, maybe 32 - 34 would be better if you did go the nitrogen fill route.
Anyway, if you're wondering what the fuss is I've found I get better traction, better fuel mileage, and better tyre mileage with nitrogen fill. It just keeps the pressure 100% consistent, since the molecules don't expand or contract under different temperatures.

| If you want nitrogen fill you'll have to go to a tyre shop to get it.
Not sure what it would cost you, but back in Australia it was $7 per tyre for life-time nitrogen fill supply for my AE86.
