| it's just a matter of getting that engine to line up just right. It is always a pain. Just takes patience, and a little manhandling and maybe a jack underneath, but eventually, it will line up. | |

| You mention that this engine never came to the US. I was wanting to do this swap or a BT, but the reason I like this car is how easy and cheap it is to work on. So my question is if you need to replace your valve cover gasket, spark plugs, or even oil filter what do you do? Do you just do some research and order pretty much everything online? | |

yeah but theres someone here that give me some good info but i also asked the ae86 community since some do still love the 4age ST and BT motors, for oil filters i use a i think a 2005 toyota taco oil filter but to help you out a little bit right now im using a purolator pureone oil filter and the part number is pl10241 so you can now cross reference to whatever oil filter you wanna run with. as for gaskets and cool maintance stuff i would go to http://shop.battlegarage-rs.com/ but surprisingly enough toyota does sell some of the OE stuff at your local dealer if your a US resident, so yeah pretty much saying that there are some motors [(for ex. the 4afe oil pan shares the same as the 4age.)] that share the same parts or whatever. So pretty much toyota was nice and showed a bit of convenience, that you can get parts like a timing belt or a oil pan. and if thats surprising to you then the picture below explains what toyota pretty much said... but for like spark plugs i think you can still run to your parts store and get the denso ones but check to see if the ones that you bought match the same as the ones that came out the motor such as like thread pitch, spark gap and such

| Thanks for the reply.
Another quick question: What made you decide to go with the ST instead of the BT? (thanks in advance)

Another quick question: What made you decide to go with the ST instead of the BT? (thanks in advance) to be honest. i never really wanted the corolla i have now at first, but it grew on me and i began to look for a motor, so i thought what was the motor that corresponded to my 95' corolla a few popped up and caught my eye but the 4age silvertop REALLY caught my eye (and during this time i started watching initial d and probably at the time i just finished watching stage 3 LOL) and i want to do more to this motor and such so then my desire pretty much grew. i didnt really care about the performance since i knew it was gonna be better then the 7afe motor i had (it made 87.9HP btw.) and when i researched it, the BT is pretty much the same motor with it being slightly different bottom end wise and intake wise but also it came out out of the next gen corolla (aka ae111) and some of the guys here ran a BT but i wanted to be different and wanted the motor to correspond to the chassis (ae101) and tho we in the states had ae102 it was still the same.... just off by 1 haha. So then i met one AE86 guy at a local carmeet one Night, that had one during the time i still had my 7a, and he said i should run a ST with BT ecu and harness cause it would have better combustion or something (i'm trying my best to remember 4 years ago...!!) and if i wanted get boosted the pistons on them were smaller and weaker, so if i threw a t25 turbo on a BT i would have to put work into a BT first before anything but if i had a ST and threw the t25 on no problems besides a ECU and a good tune. and if i wanted to throw boost easy i can supposedly get a 4AGZE super charger and make 200hp easy. but overall i was proud do have done this swap but the only down side to me i think is the silly AFM! its big and giant (and i had a hard time finding one but easy to find componets for it like the nuts the screws and the rubber groummet,) but compared to like a small MAP sensor, i wish i did what my buddy told me to do once i got the swap in, BT Harness and ECU so i can also have the 4age rev to 8k AND TRUMPETS! haha but i dont regret it now since im running it and its been a year since i've done the swap. the first year was a bit of a bumpy start but toward the end of the first year it was fine and seemed it'll run forever if you read all of this then pretty much you just ran through my life story with my corolla haha but good for you

| Well I really appreciate the thought and time you put into your response!
It seems like you really wanted a turbo, which is cool and I feel you. I don't know exactly what I want to run, but I know I want a manual and a little more power than a 7afe. The BT harness to run trumpets on your ST sounds sweet though and will defiantly help in my decision. This subject has been great to read and it's cool that you were willing to share.

| I had this issue before and I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump that's giving you this issue since that pump has been there since factory, for a 20 year old pump for some reason it either won't pump fast enough or just decided to crap out after the changes on the engine swap. You can do a walboro 255 universal fuel pump swap or spend $400+ fuel pump from the dealer which I did cause I wanted to see how long it would last for me since I DD around in my rolla. But if I were you I'd get the walboro since it's cheaper (last time I saw it was on eBay for $60) but I may be wrong and could be the relay which is supposed to be under the dash on the driver side but I sure it's under the hood where the other relays are | |

| Thanks ! Yea I just bought this. The previous owner was pretty active with his car. Not sure if he was part of this forum. Here it is in its glory days before the swap (when it ran ) | |

| I'd would have somebody to turn the key in the ON position back and forth while you hear the fuel pump pumping, it should be Atleast 2 seconds long if you do hear it then it's not the fuel pump and you have an issue somewhere else. | |

| So after taking a real good look at the Harness and ECU, its completely hacked! at this point I'm not even sure if everything is wired correctly. So I'm going to source a new harness and ecu. I want to run open stacks, I know I need to run the BT ecu. Is there a difference with in the harness too ? | |

| From what I know you have the ST runs with a AFM/MAF which has to runs to before the ITBs. It's stupid big and it looks hideous (my opinion) and you have to make your own custom adapter plate to fit like a cone filter or the original airbox. And from what I know BT harness and ECU runs with a MAP sensor so if you had a 7afe/4afe you could use the MAP and air temperature sensor but that's as far my knowledge can expand. So you may need to open a new post about BT research but if anything try to get on Club4ag since it's all ae86 guys and they been in the 4age game for a while | |
