| Hello Everyone! im trying to do some research bout 4age silver top swap but google yahoo and big arnt giving me alot of answers. so i would like to know the facts of people who have done this swap on there AE100.
like is a straight swap from the standard 16v engine ? or do you have to make some modifications on it?
when im swaping from A/T to M/T what do i have to worry about when doing this swap?
since this is my first time considering of doing this swap will the M/T come with a shifter? if not where can i get one that can go with the M/T?
Clutch pedel. can i get it from a M/T 93-97 corolla?
can i still use the stock axles from the A/T and put them in the M/T?
when im doing the engine wiring can i plug the engine looms right away or do i have do some alterations for it to work properly?
has there been any ECU prolems when you first started it up?
i have the USDM instrament cluster gauge that just shows coolant temp, MPH speedo and Fuel levels. can i swap it out with one that has all of that plus a tacometer?
any other gauges that i may need to make? (like volt gauge, oil temp etc.)
when im done with the swap how many quarts of motor oil should i put in? and can i still use oil filters that were on the 16V engine? or do i have to get them from somewhere?
i have more questions to come but i think these are important to me right now

| From what I've gathered, it's all pretty much a basic swap. It's quite easy to find the 4age with 5speed m/t on Ebay, and just make sure it comes with all the parts (like ECU). For the m/t swap, it's good to find a manual in a junkyard with all the parts. Basically, have another car available while you work on this one, so you can learn as you go. But from what I've seen, it's relatively straightforward. Only thing though is the wiring. Dr. Tweak at PhoenixTuning was always the go-to for the wiring harness conversion to make it plug and play.
You can definitely swap the gauges, just swap them and the tach should work (it did for me). You don't NEED any other gauges.

| I love my tach! I definitely recommend the swap... just find an OEM gauge cluster with it and swap it in. | |

| In short it is a straight swap, same mounts, radiator etc. As Chris said the wiring will be the hard part, i strongly suggest getting someone to do it. I haven't seen DR Tweaks work but he does seam to know his stuff. If the wiring is done properly the ECU will work right off the bat. Will will need to find a shifter for the MT conversion along with the axels, as Chris said find a donor car as that will have everything you need. You'll need the clutch lines along with the pedal. If you have any more questions let us know | |

| So I can't use the a/t axles on the m/t??? Are the splines that different? Can I use axles from an m/t corolla? | |

| best person to ask is mag wheal as he has a 20v black top in his ae101 . but from what i can tell if you get a nose cut you will be able to swap most parts over | |

| I think you'll need custom pipes to go from the 4age headers to your exhaust. You'll be good to do the whole thing though | |

| You should buy a 4age with the ECU in the package, and the tranny I assume. They usually come together, at least everyone I've seen! | |

You'll need the 4A-GE 20v Silvertop M/T ECU. All 20v's are OBDI, so no need to swap to OBDII etc.

i have more questions to come but i think these are important to me right now Hey I did a 4age silver top swap on my 97 about a yr ago. I did not do it myself but my mechanic pretty much explained everything to me. I did an automatic swap which ill be switching to manual this winter. From what i can remember, you cant use the axles on the transmission side b/c the shaft is different. From what ive researched on the swap though youre going to need an axle from a 7afe manual transmission, the transmission mount from the same motor, i would recommend just upgrading the c56 transmission as it has better gear ratios and also use the blacktop ecu if you wanna use itb's, also b/c the motor is for rhd everything is reverse i.e. coolant lines, ac lines, etc. and yes you will need to change the the cluster for one with a tach. As for the exhaust the stock headers wont work b/c of the flanges on either end so you'll need to cut them off to make them fit (also they have 20v racing headers on ebay) I personally had them custom make my exhuast, a straight pipe from the headers back. As for oil youre going to need to use full synthetic oil, i use mobil 1, and the stock oil filters will not work either. I use a bigger oil filter off of a 2005 toyota 4runner, mobil 1 m1-102. Also i used an afm off of an 89 mr2. The swap is not a "straight" swap as you would think but luckily toyota was nice enough to make parts interchangeable so if you need anything check specifically into a 90's camry, mr2, and celica. Between those three cars you should be able to find anything you need for the swap

| youre also gonna need to upgrade the fuel pump to 220 lph as it is a more powerful motor and you will no longer be able to use 86 octane. I use 93 octane only as it gives me the best performance | |

| I'm still using the 4afe pump and I don't notice the difference. Basically I took out the 4afe and box and put the 20v BT with C56 box in. I used the shafts from the C56 ans I had the get the steering pump oil lines changed as well everything else is/was 4afe. But I quess living in Kiwi land with all the imports make it easy as our new cars are almost the same as JDM.

But right now what engine mounts do I need for this engine? That's kinda my main concern beside an engine loom.

| if youre going manual ive read that you can use the stock mounts except for the transmission you can use one off of a 7afe manual transmission, although not 100% sure myself as im not manual yet. Also look into speedsource.com they have polyurethane engine mounts that'll be a great addition to your swap | |
