| SO recently I've been getting really bad economy. Look at it this way: Usually, I put 20 euro of diesel into the tank; its 1.35 a litre so thats 14.8 Litres. Usually this lasts 200 miles, plus or minus 10. This is about 42 MPG Now however, I'm barely getting 140 miles. I don't know why, I haven't been driving any faster or revving the engine. Anyone ever experienced anything like this? Or is it just me Thanks for the help! | |

| are changing your oil and air filter lately.because these things are important for the diesel engine it requires alot of air to run smooth.and plus does your engine throw black or white smoke from the exhaust | |

| Sorry for the late reply, but could it be cause of the fuel? See, I spent some time using biodiesel since it was cheaper and I'm a student; Could it be that the fuel blocked up the filter faster? I think it does..... I just got 125 miles from 20 euro again. I guess I'll just have to try | |

| Bio diesel burns faster, and your usually required to change the fuel filter to suit it.. cheaper isnt always cheaper.. if you where driving a younger (e12 d4d) then it would be worth your while.. | |

| I thought so. Never listen to the guy at the filler pump. Got it. So could that be the issue? If it is, it would be a huge relief cause I have no idea and I was afraid it was something in the engine bay itself. Cue more expenses | |

| dude im a diesel corolla owners i have that car since 1996 and in all that experience i know one thing never compromisse on diesel.and never let your fuel reserve light get on because when diesel is low car sucks up air and debris from the tank and it ruins your diesel pump in the engine and repairing that is very i mean very expensive.so id suggest get all new filters changed when getting your oil changed. im saying this because i accidently drove my car today without noticing my reserve light and the car kept loosing race on idle and started to choke and then eventually engine stopped but thank god my filter stopped the debris from entering the pump.
and for your economy drive the car below 2500 rpm and try to drive on 4 or 5 gear.with half accelerator.will do alot of good.and since its a very powerful engine if treated with care u could easily accelerate on half pedal.\im doing the same thing i get 65 to 70 km with ac in city in 10litres and for the same litre i get about 100km or more on long route.and my engine easily goes till 170km or 160km on ac.but be below 2.5 rpm and if u wanna drive fast do it on 4rth or 5th gear.u will not face clutch plate problems and cars engine will also be safe.

| My dad used to drive it till the very end of the tank and I guess I sort of inherited a bad habit Once the poor car spent 3 weeks without coolant, overheating all the time but my dad kept driving it. I'm amazed nothing has ever broken, which is why the moment all the economy started disappearing I thought it was because of all the crap the engine had been through. I'll service the car then, and let you guys know what happens next time I give it gas. I don't know how the terrain and traffic is where you live @Shehroze, but Malta has one of the densest car population in the world. There really are too many cars for a small island. SO, its always stop, start, traffic, wait for the guy in front to get out of the way in his Lada/Marina/Skoda/Mini. Problem with this is, the moment I find a stretch of road with some space I floor it. But I'm working on it | |

| hhahaha lolz i dont usually check my car coolant for a week but when i do the water level is the same in the radiator and i only have to add one glass of water 500ml in the reserve bottle.and the daily temp over here is above 35 or 40.so if facing water loosage in radiator id suggest a radiator service.and the 2c engine is a very reliable and tough engine if the oils and filter are changed regularly.
i live in hyderbad bro there so much trafic here i dont usually get to third gear and then brake and i know the 2c engine is fast very fast for smthing with 80 hp but u have to keep it under 2.5 rpm to save gas and besides u dont hav to rev this engine to give speed if u change gears before 3 rpm and go to higher gears u will never face these problems and the car will go abopve hundred easily .and theres no point in revving the diesel engine bro its rpm limit is 6 and the redline starts at 5 if u go above 4 rpm theres risk of seal leakage because its a high pressure engine.
and one more thing have u checked that does your car give black smoke from the back and there is alot of oil back in the air filter box if it is then bro your engine is dying

| OK so bit of an update on the economy: Turns out everything on the car with regards to fuel and feed was..well...perfect, as the mechanic put it. He did however give the entire system a thorough clean and I have to say, it has much more punch now, and seems to run soo much smoother. Just gave it 20 euro diesel, which is about 14 litres. See how this goes now | |
