| you will need to move the engine side mounts back since they are not the same with A series motor mounts, the other mounts should be the same.
tranny you can actually use your A series tranny if the car already has one. all E series engines use the same C series tranny that the A series use, the only difference is the bell housing and that on stock E series engines, most trannies came from smaller cars like the tercel and starlet, so gears are a bit thinner than the ones found on stock A series engines.
Axles, you can use the stock uneven length one if it came with that, or 3 piece ST/BT ones if you can drill the holes for the bearing holder of the center axle....
My car originally came with a (blech) 2E 1.3 litre and a C150 from a starlet, changed it to a 5AF with a corolla C52 from a 91 JDM corolla and I never changed the axles.... it fits without problems.
but why a 4EFTE? it only produces the same power as a 3rd gen 4AGE (134hp one, the N/A one with the 7 rib block and oil squirters and higher compression pistons) and does not have the torque at off boost.
after all, the 4EFTE is still a 1.3....

| a lot of parts from a 4EFTE will not fit your 4EFE as is.... bearings I believe are different but I think the 4EFTE pistons and other parts can be moved over to the 4EFE block without machining. It is just the bearing clearances that are different from the turbo to the non turbo.
I dont remember all other details.... You can still install a 4EFTE harness+ecu, turbo and manifold, all pipings, intake+injectors (if it is different to the one that is installed there right now) then just tune it for low boost (.4 to .5 bar max) only so you do not blow it up at hard acceleration.
This is similar to adding a stock GZE kit to a stock 4AFE.... you keep boosts low so it does not blow up.
If you want high boost or higher performance then you have to open up the engine and install the internal parts from the 4EFTE and hope the block holds up to the increased boost.
I am not sure about the prices of a typical 4EFTE where you live since I live here in the Philippines. Here, prices of the FTE are usually as high as a 4AGE blacktop due to the fact that it is a 1.3. If you can find a junkyard FTE there where you can get the parts from or a good working one for as low as giveaway prices, then by all means, get one and experiment with it.
Otherwise, I'd think about changing engines instead... think about it very carefully, discuss it with knowledgeable people there..... keyword is knowledgeable.... dont talk to bench racers.... machinists and mechanics who regularly handle 4EFTEs and get inputs from them and compare it with other engines that are in your budget that can be fitted to the car.
Then decide what you really want to do with the engine.... Remember, there is no backing out once you start the project... | |
