| Subject: Electric mirrors and windows retro-fit into base model AE101R? Fri Oct 30, 2015 1:14 pm | |
| Hi all, 1st post here, so go easy...
Recently, I purchase a 101R for my wife to go to and from work. It's an Australian-delivered base model (called a CSI Seca here), and has very little as standard, save Air and Steer. It also came with 13" steel rims running 175/65-13 tyres (which needed replacing anyway), and so I have procured a set of 14" alloys from an up-spec Corolla, with those now running new 185/60-14 tyres.
The car comes with manual windows and manual mirror adjustment.
So, my questions are:
1) If I pull the blanking plate where the mirror switch would be, I can see an un-used connector sitting a way behind the instrument cluster. It's black in colour, and is connected to a bracket in there with other plugs etc. all of which are connected to something. Is this plug designed to plug the mirror control switch into?
2) I know that there will be speaker wires in the front doors. Will there also be the wiring necessary to connect electric mirrors? (Haven't yet gone to the extent of pulling the door trims off completely to check).
3) Is there also wiring in place for electric windows? I ask as there is definitely wiring running through into both front and rear doors (and there are no speakers in the rears).
In short, has anyone done the upgrade of these bits into a base model, Australian-delivered CSI Seca, and if so, what parts did you ultimately need to get to make everything work? (Or was it just too much hassle in the end?)
Thanks in advance.
BTW. The reason we purchased the car was that it has 96000kms/60000ml from new (1997), and looks in that sort of nick. One of the cleanest, least "used-looking" used cars I think I've seen...and the price just couldn't be gone past. A few small tweaks here and there (if they can be done cheaply DIY) and it will be a very nice thing!

| Do you have central locking? That'll have wires running to the rear doors.
I've always wondered if our cars came pre-wired for all the options, a lot of the JDM and American ones do but Aus likes to be special...
I've considered getting power windows at some stage too (already got power mirrors as standard and a set of folding ones sitting in a box waiting to get installed) but haven't pulled the door trims off to check the wiring.

Yes, the car does have central locking, so that would likely explain the wiring in both front and rear doors (plus speakers in the fronts). From the sounds of things, I'll likely need to strip just about everything out of a donor car if I want to install electric windows - or even electric mirrors - in the car, which is a shame. I was thinking of doing a run to Sydney to Pick and Pay less, to see if they have a higher-specced 101 or 102 that I can grab the requisite parts from. Have asked them via an online form, but haven't heard back yet...
