DIY: 3S-GE Throttle Body Coolant Pipe Bypass

Thanks to Waveydavey on celicaclubuk for showing me how to do this..

As some of you may know hot coolant goes through the throttle body to prevent it freezing, The air going through the TB gets heated up quite abit (try touching the TB whilst the engine is up to temp ), no matter what cold air system you have, all the air going through the TB is getting heated up which kinda makes the cold air system pointless in my opinion, here in the UK i dont think that the TB is not going to freeze ever because the temp wont drop that low, so i think its safe to bypass the pipes..

if you want to do this then this is what you need..



an 8mm connector (£1.25 on ebay) and a flat head screwdriver and 2 jubillee clips

here you can see the two pipes that the hot coolant flows through,
1 facing down and 1 facing to the right



Under the the TB pulley behind the oil gauge sensor (aftermarket on mine)

smply undo the jubilee clips and pull em off




then find a piece of pipe about so long and join them together

Hey Ishaq. Just a quick question, do you just leave the part on the TB where you removed the pipes open or do you have to close them off with something? Thanks

i blocked them up

what did you block them with also what you reckon its freezing point is ?

block what with?
It will be quite low im sure

what did you block the pipes up with when you took off the hose?

i joined them together with the plastic tube joiner

i meant what did you block the pipes up with on the TB

just tubes with a bolt in the ends lol

Apologies for bringing this back to life. I had my throttle slightly re-bored so it had to be undone and so the mechanic who installed it back also connected the hoses back to the TB again. Now, I hear the IACV hissing whenever the water is up to boiling and I'm wondering if this is because of the hot water passing through. But before I bypass it again I just wanted to know if this would be the cause. Any thoughts? Thanks!
