With the global rising cost of petrol has anyone on here thought of or know of someone who has had their cars fuel system changed over to a more cost efficient fuel such as LPG etc. This is what I've read about LPG. First the conversion is a pricey mod and you still need a petrol tank. You need a second tank for the lpg fuel. Around my area there are a fair few lpg gas pumps but they are thin on the ground in other areas. And there is the debate about a slight lack in the performance of LPG cars. I think the average cost of a conversion is around 1200 GBP -1500. So it's not a good investment if your not sure about how long you will have the car. But in my case I would like to keep it going as long as I can. I mean near my home here, someone has an old 1960s Austin wagon. It's kept un garaged on the road obviously has it's MOT as it would't be there otherwise, the paint is not shiny but it is totally as far as I can see rust free. So if I could keep my car going that long, having a conversion would pay off in the long run. The only thing about new eco fuels, is that sometime in the future when or if there are less petrol cars on the road, the government may raise the taxation on LPG and electric and hybid cars to make up the reduced revenue from regular petrol. I hope that won't happen, but it used to be here in the U.K. until 1997 that cars that get to the grand old age of 25 years old would be exempt from road tax. But they stopped that on all cars made after 1st January 1973. So the government may give incentives to cut the cost of fuel by buying a more eco friendly car, or converting your current cars fuel something like LPG but then there is always the chance they may change that. But If anyone has experience of converting to a cheaper fuel, I would be interested to hear about it whether it be a good or bad thing.
