So Hey Guys so i got a DIY for all of you since I still have my corolla and its been sitting being a driveway queen since ECU got fried for unknown reasons and waiting for X amount of money for the repairs, so while i wait for my troubles to come to pass i thought I'd give you guys something to do since most of us are 4 lug. this is basically a drop-in, bolt on swap for the front i will work on doing the rear when spring/ summer comes around this year (in my case when warmer, drier weather comes.)

So to actually start what I have below me is a set of US Spec 1993-1999 ST202 Celica FWD front hubs and knuckles. I got it these out of a 1996 Celica GT from a local pick n pull (junkyard or wreckers in your countries)

So obviously 1st step is to jack up your rolla
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0012

Next step is to soak the lug nuts, lug studs and hub centric hub with some rust penetrating spray then remove the wheels with a 21mm impact socket (1/2) and impact gun (1/2)
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0013

Next Step is to soak the outter tie rod locking nut, outter tie rod castle nut, axle nut, strut nuts and bolt threads caliper bolts & the lower ball joint nuts and bolts.
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0015
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0014

Next is to go ahead and crack open the caliper bolts and remove the caliper with a 17mm socket or wrench(use the box end). if its on a bit tight get your large hammer and hit the wrench clock wise (facing you) then use a ratchet or ratcheting wrench to complete the process.
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0016

Then While your at it get a 19mm wrench (open end) and crack open the locking nut of the outter tie rod
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0017

Next is to get your 30mm axle socket and impact gun and start getting the axle nut out
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0018

Next is to get a 17mm impact socket and impact gun and remove the castle nut off the outter tie rod, then hammer the arm that keeps the tie rod in till either it pops out on its own or till you can pop out with ease by hand
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0019
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0020

Next is to use that same 17mm impact socket and impact gun to hit the (2) lower ball joint nuts and (1) bolt to remove the lower ball joint off the lower control arm
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0021

Next is to get a 19mm wrench and 19mm short socket and remove the (2) strut bolts then shortly after remove the knuckle and lower ball joint as 1 whole unit.
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0022

Next is to remove the outter tie rod, now this is optional but your gonna have to do an alignment anyways but I counted the times I was backing the outter tie rod till it came out, then screw in the ST202 outter tie rod back in, if you counted great, if not well not like the end of the world.
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0023
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0024

Next is basically reverse order with the ST202 knuckle and lower ball joint. Put the lower ball joint in the lower control arm (yes it is a direct fit not drilling or modding required!) insert the (2) LCA nuts and (1) bolt in with a 17mm impact socket, Put the (2) 19mm strut bolts through the knuckle, put the 17mm castle nut in the outter tie rod and insert the cotter pin through the outter tie rod.

Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0030
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0031
Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap Dsc_0029

Then it is the same process on the other side but then boom you have a Celica 5 lug swap in the front now I will come back to this later to show how to do the rears so be on the eye for that.

Now to discuss about the optional** stuff. Now honestly I haven’t done this because I don’t mind having a 5x100 setup but I am going off of my own research and assumptions, I will provide links to my source of where I got the information. But from what I found you can use first gen RAV4’s hubs to get a 5x114.3 setup but that would also require you have a 5x114.3 rotor, now in my assumption RAV4 rotors are almost identical to Celica only difference is the 5 lug setup. Brake pads should be the same. As for the wheel bearings you can still use the Celica wheel bearings but that would require a wheel bearing press or a tool like a wheel bearing puller and installer set as well as a set of snap ring pliers because those wheel bearings are being held by a snap ring. whats also optional is not doing the drop in swap but instead pressing out and pressing in new bearings and hubs into your existing AE101 knuckles. though im going into this route is because of a big brake setup that'll let you guys in soon!

Now to go further into the path i went through, get a drill and a 9/16 drill bit and drill through the ears of the caliper hole as they need to be enlarged for the M14x1.25 tap to go through. Then use the M14x1.25 tap and tap through the ears that you just enlarged.
but now since you've done this you will need 4 m14x1.25 bolts, well unfortunately even with my luck, no-one does not carry such a bolt that size, so you'll need to enlist help of either a machinist or a race shop that knows how to work a lathe because this isnt easy, and on top of that shave-off 8-8.5mm off the ears of the celica calipers!
luckily i have friends that are machinist and are willing to help with my shenanigans. anywho heres the link i used in reference http://www.6gc.net/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t90206.html

11/25/2019 edit

sorry for the late update, ive been busy with my life as of recent (also Im remembering things off the top of my head as this was done sometime in March of 2019 and its already November 2019 so some things i think i have wrong, so in advance im truely sorry. (also unfortunately i dont have pics on how to do the front and rears as this will have heavy modding stuff) but here we go!

How to go about to start with the rears, take off brake lines off the drums and use plastic hose clamp pliers at the rubber hoses so that you dont present anymore air into the system then you already have done. this also prevents anymore fluid from dripping onto your driveway or shop floor. next get the big hammer and start getting the rear drums off, then get some penetrating fluid and spray the 4 bolts that hold the wheel bearing on the knuckle, then get a 14mm deep socket with a medium extension, doesnt matter 3/8in or 1/2in just as long as you get all 4 bolts off. (now heres where i wish i had pictures to help include how i did this but im sure theres a better method to this like pressing out the wheel hub or buy a new rear wheel hub and then put Celica rear wheel hubs in the corolla wheel bearing but i didnt go that route because i was on a bit budget crunch then lol) also Warning as this will also change alignment setting in rear, may or may not mess with caster settings, this is not for the faint of heart.  So to start out this press out the rear wheel hub out, then on a piece of blank paper (prefer white) trace out the outside of hub, draw out the bolt holes, cut the drawn outside lines, use template that you just made and center it to the back of Celica hub, then glue it, this also doubles as a barrier when you start chipping away metal, then start wearing your safety goggles, then get your burring tool with the die grinder or electric drill gun and start chipping away the metal, chip away till you match the bolts holes, test fit them if needed, once you completed that its all pretty much easy and smooth sailing, bolt in stuff from here on out. Adjust rear parking brakes if needed before slapping in rotors (this also applies when doing the rear Celica bbk), once you have the rotors on, simply slide the caliper (my case gt-four calipers) go on bleed brakes. boom your done. kind of, i did miss out on the parking brake cables but this is a simple matter of taking the center console out (when inside corolla) where the parking brake handle is, and underneath the flap of the parking brake handle there should be a 10mm adjusting bolt/screw, loosen it enough till you have enough cable for both rear brake cables then adjust the parking brakes, then boom your done, you should have a 5x100 rear set up. hopefully im not missing too much info but if you have questions just hit me up here on this thread and i'll answer it your question to the best of my ability! thanks

ah, I knew it looked like you had no brakes on in that pic with the wheel that you posted elsewhere! lol

Did the hub offset change that much on the conversion, or is the wheel sticking out so much just because of the wheel?

Nice job, it's neat that everything bolted up directly like that

the hub offset did change that much on the conversion but also the wheel and 25mm wheel adapter also made the wheel stick out lol

Bro!! SO sick. I thought this was like Club4AG where people reply like 2 weeks later.. haha. Thanks man! I've got a 96 Base I've had for awhile.. Lookin to do what you did. I REALLY want some ST204 5x100 alloys. But I could settle for GT wheels too Smile.

I get it man, appreciate the quick reply!

PostSubject: Re: Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap    Front & Rear 5 Lug Swap EmptyMon Jun 20, 2022 4:51 pm

Hey, sorry about my interest in this subject, but I see that you went for celica st202 brakes for the front. I get that, but my question is that, is there a possibility to fit Lexus sumitomo brake calipers from the 95-00 year Lexus ls400. I heard somewhere that the avalon calipers fit the celica knuckles. My Theory is that if the ls400 calipers fit the es300, which is the same front end as a avalon and camry, then why wouldn't the celica be able to take the ls400 calipers (without a little bit of etching) which supposedly takes the avalon calipers normally.
