| I have a 1996 Corolla DX 1.8 5 speed
I was driving down the highway and gave it a little gas and the tranny popped out of 5th gear. And now it does it every time i put it in 5th. If i hold it it drives fine.
I pulled the side cover on the tranny and the syncro sleeve teeth looked good and so did the blocker ring. I forgot to check fork to sleeve clearance while i was in there. Do you guys think it is the sleeve even tho it looked fine? Or is it more likely the fork?

| hmm maybe the fork. Im not sure to be honest. Everything has to be connected firmly for it to work at its best. Recheck all the forks. When mines was loose on one of them I couldnt put it into first or second gear. It wouldnt stay stuck. | |

| Mine would not allow me to shift to 5th or reverse when the shift lever bushing went missing. | |

| 5th gear pop outs usually happened on C50 trannies..... its a synchronizer problem on those models but it should not happen on newer ones after 1992 unless the 5th gear synchronizer there is already worn. | |

Worn synchronisers won't cause a gear to pop out (once the gears are engaged the synchros do nothing), it's either the ball-detents on the shifter arm (often exacerbated by people resting their hand on the shifter whilst cruising which puts pressure on the detent) or worn bearings on the shafts causing slop in the shifter hubs (which again loads up the detents, which wear over time) http://www.wcengineering.com/articles/popout.html
