| Picked up a set of 101 SS twinpots a couple of months ago (along with pads and rotors), will be looking to do the Celica pad carrier mod over Christmas. Apparently the Australia-spec ST204 Celicas ran the big 275mm single-pot brakes so I don't need to track down ST202 calipers (which are very very uncommon here) | |

Sounds great! just make sure to see if those need to be modified (shaved) to get it centered on the rotors.

The other option I was going to investigate was spacing out the rotor hat, but the downside of that is risking losing the hubcentricity (need to double-check this anyway to confirm what size my hubs are, decent chance they'll be 54.1 for the wheel but stepped up slightly to 55mm for the rotor, and fairly sure the discs I got are 54mm)

Problem is that most info on the net will refer to either JDM or USDM models (and years), whereas Australian models are all over the place in regards to what they had when (and we had stuff that the rest of the world didn't too)

| my car is an EE100 (yeah.... pity me) and I converted my stock (puny) 238x16mm discs to 2 pot ST202 discs and brakes.
Did not fit exactly as I had hoped.... For one thing, the ST202 caliper bracket is a bit shorter than the celica ST-202 mcpherson single pot model so it does not fit when using the celica (redrilled to 4x100 lugs) 275x28mm discs but I was lucky enough that the hub fit perfectly at 55mm..
I had to have the discs reduced to 265mm before I was able to get it working without hitting the brake calipers....I also had to mod the caliper bracket so that the discs are centered in the caliper bracket when I installed it to the stock EE100 mcpherson caliper bracket bolt holes.
From what I have read, the early model ones have the 54.1mm hub (preface lift, 1992 to 1994-95) then the post face lift ones (1996 and 1997) used the 55mm ones and I think this carried over to the AE111 as well since even the front subframe of the AE111 is the same exact subframe as my 1996 Corolla EE100. The 1994 and below corolla models use a different front subframe design.

| NOTE on the upgrade. I found that the Celica 2.2L 1995-1996 USDM Brake Pads not shure where other models of celica over the world share exactly the same pads. But this ones are the biggest you can run on the conversion using the T-Sports Rotors. | |

| Sourced a set of ADM ST204 pad carriers, supposedly the same part as the ST202 non-SS carriers that Scott has (Toyota Aus tends to spec big single-pot brakes compared to the rest of the world) so will hopefully be giving the twinpots a run over the Christmas break. | |

Is that what you had to do when fitting? This is the issue I have that the disc rubs on the carrier when bolted up. I am using: AE111 hub AE111 twin bolt caliper ST202 carrier AE111 275mm disc Plus ZZT231 driveshafts with C60 and 2ZZGE all in an AE82 FXGT but thats another story Brad

| Had a go at trial-fitting the ST204 pad carrier brackets today in conjunction with the twinpot calipers, unfortunately I've got the 54mm SS AE101 discs rather than the 55mm SS AE111 discs so I couldn't quite get everything to sit snug, looks like I'll either need to machine the pad carrier a couple of mm on the mounting face or get a spacer for the rotor (which I'd prefer not to do as aftermarket rotors are all 55mm). Brand new seal kit and 4x cylinder pistons from Toyota, grand total of $130 +p/h through Amayama Showing the 54-to-55mm step on the AE102 hub - disc needs to be 55mm, wheels need to be 54mm. ST204 caliper bracket on the stock 255mm disc, the rotor just skims the inner face but there's too much room on the other side, wouldn't want a pad falling out... How the 275mm disc sits inside the carrier - since the rotor doesn't want to sit all the way in on the hub (due to the step) it actually lines up almost perfectly in the carrier, however the rotor can rock around a bit and would be dangerous to attach a wheel in this configuration No need to trim the factory heat shield, fits perfect SS pads fit snug in the ST204 carrier and line up millimetre-perfect with the edge of the disc No machining of the pad carrer where it bolts to the hub either (unlike the SS carrier) - perfect fit How it looks all assembled - if it wasn't for the mis-matched paint you'd swear it was a factory fitment Diameter comparison of the AE102 to SS AE101 discs Since the 14" spare wheel will no longer fit over the SS caliper (Superstrut models came with 15" wheels as standard) I decided to get a set of what I believe are facelift ZZE122 15x6" steelies.......that also happened to come with Advan A048 R-comp semi-slicks Might just keep those in the back pocket for Toyota Nationals next year... Even with the bigger wheels, clearance was pretty tight. Back side of the caliper was fine, but the clearance between the face of the rim and the front of the caliper is as about as tight as I'd be comfortable with And just for laughs I fitted the ST204 pad carrier and an SS pad to the stock AE102 disc.....yeah, these brakes are going to be heaps better | |

Perfect Fit!
You can also use spacers to center the rotor between pads, instead you prefer to shave the calliper bracket. My question is, why you preferred to shave the bracket over using spacers? Thanks.

No need to trim the factory heat shield, fits perfect
SS pads fit snug in the ST204 carrier and line up millimetre-perfect with the edge of the disc
No machining of the pad carrer where it bolts to the hub either (unlike the SS carrier) - perfect fit
How it looks all assembled - if it wasn't for the mis-matched paint you'd swear it was a factory fitment
Diameter comparison of the AE102 to SS AE101 discs

And I bought these EBC rotors. Front 275mm rotors. Rear 266mm Rotors. And I bought Celica pads for front rotors because Celica pads have more thickness as compared to AE101 pads (Celica 17mm vs AE101 15mm).

Can you tell me which is the best way to center rotors between the pads? 1. Using spacers. 2. Shaving the calliper bracket. Thanks.

Because spacing out the rotor will push it off the 55mm lip on the hub and on to the 54mm section that the wheel mounts on. Considering all aftermarket rotors are 55mm, this means the rotor will not be centred by the hub and instead has a greater chance of being off-balance.

| So as luck would have it I stumbled across a guy selling his factory AE111 SS rotors that he had removed to fit DBAs (the ones that fit the ZZE123 Sportivo), so hopefully this weekend I can get around to doing another test with this time with the proper 55mm centre-bore rotors and work out just how much I'll need to skim off the pad carriers to get the rotor centred. All going well it'll be marginal. | |

| And the end result is finally in Calipers and carriers vapour-blasted ready for overhaul (second set for @theguitarhero4) Primed Top-coated (I went matte-black, Andrew went silver) New pistons, seals, dust boots and clip-rings And new slide pins, boots, bolts and banjos Interestingly when I got my wheel bearings replaced back in 2017 the new hubs came without the 55mm step in them.....so the AE111 rotors I sourced would no longer fit properly (also meant that the new rotors I got when trying to diagnose the wheel bearings have been flopping around with a mil diameter clearance for 2 and a half years, well that explains the brake shudder...). Good thing I still had the 54.1mm AE101 rotors as a backup Rotor now centred well in the pad carrier, if I wanted to use the more commonly available DBA759 Sportivo rotor I'd probably have to get another 2mm machined off the carrier and that would be a little too much for my liking Make sure to use the SuperStrut pad not the ST204 Celica pad (Celica pads are thicker and the caliper won't fit over them), I used DP3995C EBC Redstuffs but any pad for the later SW20 MR2s will fit (same pad as the SuperStrut Corolla) Caliper fitted And new braided lines just for bling | |
