AE101 Levin GT Apex - Reversing Beeper

sorry if its in the wrong section, move if needs be but came accross this today..

was doing my usual doodling around the car today and
spotted a wiring loom that was going no where underneath
the car.. traced this into the boot behind the panels and found
this....



there was another loom going along the boot into the reversing lights
so i plugged this loom into this box and this was the result...

reversing beeper



so, is it an optional extra? i think it is cause all the clamps, brackets/bolt holes
are OEM... but it could be on all of them, not sure..

any other AE101 owner has this...??

also.. the beeper box has 3 ports:

port 1 for reverse light loom
port 2 for beeper on outside of box
port 3 goes to a loom underneath the car "comes out just behind mud guard, this isnt connected to anything".. parking sensors???

iit came in my car because it was auto before so its common for me

cant not for the life of me find info on it.. nor is it on toyodiy.. it has to be OEM tho cause of the way its run and the brackets there for it... ill know more soon when i get another bloke with a gt apex to check his

So where is the beeping, does it sound in the car (as if you forgot you were reversing) or does it sound outside to warn other people that you are reversing? I know that there was an option for the interior beeping, because I know people hate it and disable it lol (as was obviously done in yours).

its basically a reversing beeper like you would find on trucks or pick ups.. the sound comes from that box you can see in the picture and video..

how ever.. theres a 3rd loom that comes down from that box and underneath the car and has 4 wires.. i dont know what this does as the loom stops there at a connector and theres no other loom to mate with it... again this looks OEM.... must be for reversing sensors

It's a dealer fitted optional reversing sensor. (Hence the lack of info in the EPC). It uses a single sensor on the rear passenger side of the car, usually drilled through the bumper.

They are an *uber* rare option, even rarer than the air fantasy etc. Yours is the second one I've ever come across (mine is the first).

The wire would normally go to an ultrasound sensor via a small driver box about the size of a box of matches. I have a similar unit I'll be fitting to my Levin that I got from a mates Sera that we are currently dismantling.

They use a standard 40kHz output, so any after market sensor can be attached if you are good at soldering. The wire on mine was broken too so I have a single sensor on the way from Ebay.

You can see the sensor to the left (the grey cylinder) and the driver box that are mounted on the outside of the car.

cool... i have the loom for the outer sensor but no sensor/sensor loom... oh well..

also, that loom on the outside of the car has 4 wires

so its a dealer option? not factory?

Yeah, dealer option, so it uses a different EPC that no-one outside Toyota can get their hands on it seems. Even the guy I use at my Toyota dealership in Australia who gets me a lot of inside info and prices can't get the applicable EPC from Toyota Japan....


My sensor kit has a 3 wire (4 pin plug) loom that goes to the outside of the car, the little black box plugs into that then the actual sensor is hard wired to the box.

ya you can see the 3rd loom in my pic above... it goes down through the floor and under the car.... probably never find a sensor but what harm
