The entry level ones are generally from $400-800 USD. Non entry levels can cost you up to $5000. The most popular entry levels are the Nikon Dxxxx series and the Canon Rebel series. If you want to save money, find one that's manufacture refurbished w/ warranty. That's what I did when I was looking for mine on ebay. One year later and mine still works like new! Get the body only if you can so you can invest more money in a better lens than the kit lens. But if you do want the kit lens, they're very cheap to buy separately online because lots of folks like to upgrade from their kit lens.

And that's only half the fun. Wait till you discover what you can do with RAW images in post editing softwares! Man I'm getting all excited now. lol

what about a point and shoot camera......mostly sony 16 or 14 mega pixels......i dont think i could ever save up for a dslr......not untill i get in my buisness after studies,,,,,,,

all my pics are taken with point and shoot, but you just cant beat a dslr

point and shoot good....but dslr for the win

i will get a dslr photoshoot for my car..even if i have to pay some one....just for u guys...

beside my corolla aint going nowhere for many years to come....

Point and shoots are fine. But remember that mega pixels do not matter in terms of picture quality. MP is just picture size for printing. It's mostly used as gimmick to lure in buyers. The quality is determined by the lens and camera body. My camera is a 16mp and it poops all over my old Olympus 18.1 point n shoot.

^ true kenny, i also use a DSLR and to me, its all about the lense. but i was playing with a nikon point and shoot the other day and was very impressed with the picture quality. i think one of these days ill get the d5100 but i cant get myself to do it since my d3100 is already amazing. lol. ill be posting a picture soon =)

Your D3100 does take amazing pics! I personally don't think it's worth upgrading to the 51. Only real advantage between the two I found was that the 51 has only a slightly better ISO sensitivity for night shots... and it has a few other gimmicks like built in HDR that I could live without. What I do love most is the adjustable flip screen! Makes things a LOT less awkward when trying to get creative shots.

Yeah, the screen is really the only reason I want to upgrade. I take A LOT of low level shots and Gus screen would help tremendously

I may still yet change my entry. Ive still got 2 days left right. It all depends on how dirty or not dirty my car gets when I drive to my location. lol
