AE101 Crotch Vent Install

Howdy folks! I own a '99 RAV4 that has a crotch vent, so I decided to peek down and - lo and behold - my '94 Levin had the option, but there was a plastic cover over the hole! I did some digging, and found that the part number for the vent register was 55680-17050-22. I was able to get my hands on an OEM part, so I pulled the lower instrument panel under the steering column down to take a look behind it. Disassembly was simple - three screws and three clips, plus a couple cables attached. I left the hood release cable in place and unscrewed the beeper to give me some more wiggle room.
I saw that the duct to heat register (part 55844-12320) had a plastic cover molded onto the T-section, similar to the instrument panel cover which also had a plastic cover molded on. I whipped out my trusty x-acto knife and carefully cut away the covers while still leaving a lip for the clips on the crotch vent to hang onto. I slapped everything back together and threw the crotch vent into the newly formed hole, and it was a perfect fit! She works like a charm. Operation Peter Heater was a resounding success!
