| My 1993 Corolla LE 4 speed VIN came up as a 7afe as the engine.... But I read somewhere that the 7afe was only in the wagons... All of my engine identification stickers are gone. The were taken off somehwere in the past. I'm extremely confused and I just got my transmission replaced. My warranty runs out in about 2 weeks on it. I really don't want to have the wrong transmission on the wrong engine.
So my question to you all: What is the easiest way to tell what engine I have by looking around at the engine? Thanks!!

| Look at the oil pan. The 7AFE has what looks like a 2 piece cast aluminum upper pan and steel lower pan. The 4AFE has a 1 piece stamped steel pan | |

| and the engine block stamping number with start with a 7A if it is a 7AFE. You find this one the exhaust side of the engine block near the distributor. If it says 4A, then it is a 4AFE. | |

| Thank you guys!!! Turns out my Rolla has a 7AFE. Which is strange. The identification plate was super worn, I couldn't read it. But my oil pan was aluminum and steel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the saloon have to be special ordered back in 93 to have the 7AFE wagon engine?? Or was there short period where the saloon was made with the 7AFE? Or was the 7AFE even solely made for the wagon? | |

Not sure where you're finding your info but the 7A is in no way limited only to the wagons in North America. I think the wagons ONLY had the 7A, but plenty of sedans did too (I think all DXs and LEs, with the base and CE getting the 4A).

Ok, I thought that didn't sound right. Thanks for the clarification.
